More outbound defenders for Julian de Guzman and Red Bull New York. After one season, veteran full back Raheem Edwards has been bought out of his contract, the club announced on Tuesday.
Edwards, 30, played in 24 MLS matches for RBNY last season, primarily serving as a second choice off the bench. However, midway through the season, the left back position became his own in favor of Omar Valencia and Marcelo Morales.
Despite the elevation in his role, Edwards was decidedly mediocre on the left flank, factoring into a few chances on the attack but being a bit of a liability defensively.
Currently, this leaves New York with one natural left back in the squad (Valencia). Following New York's announcement, Edwards's hometown club Toronto FC announced that it had reacquired the defender off of waivers.
