On Friday Jan. 23, Red Bull New York II announced that it had re-signed goalkeeper Austin Causey to a one-year MLS Next Pro contract through the 2026 season.
Causey, 24, played in five MLS Next Pro regular season matches in 2025 for RBNY II. He made the biggest splash for the club when Aidan Stokes vacated the starting goalkeeper role when he was called into the U-17 USYNT during the 2025 MLS Next Pro playoffs.Â
In Stokes's absence, Causey stepped up and led the Baby Bulls to a triumphant cup run, making spectacular saves throughout the playoffs. Most notably, he made an absurd second half save in the final against Colorado Rapids 2 to keep RBNY II in the match before saving the final penalty and securing the trophy.
In a statement to media, newly named RBNY II head coach Dominik Wohlert said, “We are happy to have Austin back with the team. He was a huge part of last season’s MLS Next Pro Cup run and is a great leader who will continue to have a positive impact on the group."
Causey joined the club in 2025 after breaking into the professional ranks with USL League One sides Richmond Kickers and Lexington SC. The Concord, Massachusetts native is a product of the New England Revolution academy.
Currently, this leaves RBNY with seven goalkeepers between its first and second teams (assuming the signing of Ethan Horvath goes through): Ethan Horvath, John McCarthy, AJ Marcucci, Aidan Stokes, Tobias Szewczyk, Austin Causey and draft pick Tomas Hut.
