Joe Pantorno of amNewYork reports that Red Bull New York is close to finalizing terms to sign German defender Robert Voloder. The 24-year-old's contract option with former club Sporting Kansas City was declined at the end of the 2025 MLS season. The news was initially broken by @MostlyBullNY on Twitter.
A former U22 Initiative signing for SKC, Voloder brings a healthy amount of MLS experience to a New York backline that's undergoing personnel changes ahead of the 2026 MLS season. He made 65 league appearances across four seasons in Kansas City, including 16 starts in 2025 despite suffering a broken collarbone that kept him out for the summer. In his 20 appearances across all competitions in 2025, Voloder continued his upward trajectory from season's prior, cementing his position as KC's first choice center back.
Before his time in MLS, Voloder turned pro with 1. FC Koln's reserve side and played his first minutes of first team football with NK Maribor in Slovenia. He also has nearly two dozen youth international caps with both Bosnia & Herzegovina and Germany.
Voloder joins the center back room at RBNY which currently consists of Noah Eile, Tim Parker and Alexander Hack. Like Hack, Voloder is a left-footed stay-at-home defender.
RBNY has announced that newly promoted first team manager Michael Bradley will meet with the media for a press conference at 3pm on Monday, Jan. 5 at Sports Illustrated Stadium.
