On Monday, Red Bull New York announced that the club and defender Alexander Hack had mutually reached an agreement to terminate the player's contract. This comes after news on Sunday that RBNY were in talks to finalize terms with former Sporting Kansas City defender Robert Voloder, who offers a similar profile to Hack as a left-footed stay-at-home center back.
Hack, 32, featured in 21 MLS matches in 2025 and 25 matches across all competitions, scoring one goal. He was brought in ahead of last season and reunited with former manager Sandro Schwarz after the two had crossed paths at Mainz in the Bundesliga between 2017 and 2019.
Hack was a starter under Schwarz in the first few matches of 2025 but lost his place in the lineup as the season went on, as the former RBNY manager regularly preferred Sean Nealis and later Tim Parker in his stead. With Schwarz having been removed from the managerial position at the end of the season, Hack's playing opportunities felt like they would be even more scarce in 2026 under Michael Bradley's possession system.
Most importantly, though, is the removal of Hack's contract from RBNY's books. Hack maintained a $930,000 base TAM salary and was guaranteed compensation of over $1 million, far too expensive for a depth center back in MLS. This roster move will give Head of Sport Julian de Guzman valuable resources to bring in additional center back ahead of the 2026 season.
RBNY has announced that newly promoted first team manager Michael Bradley will meet with the media for a press conference at 3pm on Monday, Jan. 5 at Sports Illustrated Stadium. Head of Sport Julian de Guzman will also be in attendance. It will be streamed live to YouTube.
