With the 21st pick of the 2026 MLS Superdraft on Thursday, Dec. 18, Red Bull New York selected goalkeeper Tomas Hut out of Syracuse University. It would be New York's only selection of this year's draft.
The Nutley, NJ native began his collegiate career with Army before transferring to Syracuse in 2023. Hut spent three seasons with the Orange, playing in 37 matches and helping them to a NCAA tournament berth as captain in 2025, his graduate season.
Totaling 54 appearances throughout his NCAA career, the selection represents a homecoming for Hut, who grew up not 20 minutes from Sports Illustrated Stadium.
Additionally, Hut participated in the the Red Bulls' New York area development program, Regional Development Schools (RDS) before joining Match Fit Academy and Seton Hall Prep High School.Â
With the Pirates, Hut was a Tirst team All-Non-Public and Second Team All-State selection as a senior in 2020. He helped backstop SHP to a Non-Public state championship as a junior in 2019 and to a Northeast, Non-Public sectional title in his senior season.
Hut joining the club will likely mean that homegrown goalkeeper Aidan Stokes will likely be employed with the first team this season, competing with John McCarthy while AJ Marcucci recovers from injury.
Hut will likely battle with Tobias Szewczyk for playing time with RBNY 2.
