According to sources, Red Bull New York has signed Panamanian forward Gustavo Herrera from parent club Sporting San Miguelito, currently on loan at Costa Rican outfit Deportivo Saprissa, on an MLS NEXT Pro contract. Jose Miguel Dominguez F. of El Marcador reports that the 20-year-old is set to sign with RBNY and will begin his career with the reserve team.
The Colon, Panama native has one goal in 14 career appearances for Saprissa and debuted for the Canaleros at the senior level in February 2025. Herrera broke through at the professional ranks with San Miguelito in 2023 and has since spent time on loan with Puebla in 2024 before joining Saprissa in 2025.
Former Red Bulls goalkeeper Carlos Coronel will not be heading to Orlando City as previously reported. Talks have broken down between the Paraguayan international and Orlando and it appears he will be headed to Brasilian Serie A side Sao Paulo FC. If the move's completed, it will be Coronel's first time playing in the country of his birth since 2015 as a youth player with Red Bull Brasil.
The 29-year-old goalkeeper will be looking to secure the starting job in Sao Paulo in hopes to earn more trust with the Paraguay national team ahead of the 2026 World Cup. Filing a one-time FIFA switch from Brazil in 2023, Coronel has nine caps with the Albirroja, but has lost the starting keeper job to San Lorenzo's Orlando Gill and Cerro Porteno's Roberto Fernandez.
Paraguay was drawn into the Group D alongside the United States for the 2026 World Cup.
USMNT midfielder Luca de la Torre, out of favor with parent club RC Celta Vigo, will sign for Charlotte FC, Tom Bogert reports. The 27-year-old center mid spent 2025 on loan with San Diego FC and was previously reported to have drawn interest from Red Bull New York.
MLS Transfers on Twitter has also indicated that RBNY have interest in USMNT and Venezia midfielder Gianluca Busio. Busio, 23, will be out of a contract at the end of the Serie B season in May.
